About Me

About me......

My name is Johnie Alison Aughtman and I am 21 years old. I am currently an elementary education major at the University of South Alabama. I am a junior and am planning on graduating with with a bachelor degree in elementary education in December of 2010. I graduated from Ocean
Springs High School in 2006. I was a four year member of the high school's varsity and competition dance team and made captain my senior year. I absolutely love working with children. I am looking forward to becoming a teacher and being able to practice my love of education and working with children every day of my life. I want to be the type of teacher who is creative and knowledgeable in their craft. I want to excite my students about the art of learning and aide them in their paths to becoming successful, educated, and happy adults. I will stop at nothing to help my students accomplish their hopes and dreams. I will always raise the bar when it comes to education and being a well respected educator.
My Teaching Philosophy

My priorities as a teacher is that I establish a well managed environment for learning, and educate all of my students to the very best of my ability. As a teacher, I want to prepare my students for life and its many obstacles, as well as, hoping to inspire my students in some aspect of their lives. I will achieve these priorities in my classroom by implementing my personal values as a teacher, such as creativity and integration, fairness and consistency, as well as passion for my career.

Creativity & Integration....
I feel very strongly about creativity in the classroom. I feel that I will always integrate creativity into every lesson that is being taught. My students do not want to just come to class and be able to predict what they are going to be learning that day, they want to feel excited about school just as much as I do and want them to. I feel that an integrated curriculum can go hand in hand with creativity. I, as a teacher will integrate key subject courses such as math with subjects that are not considered a core subject. I have found that my students are able to relate better to the core ideas and concepts taught in a subject such as math when it is integrated into another lesson. For example, I related math with music and had my students write songs dealing with the rules of negative and positive numbers, such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing them. Then, my students were able to express their creative talents and become interested in the "normal" math lesson. When students become interested in subjects they retain information more accurately and effectively.

Fairness....
I as a teacher implement the same rules and regulations for every student in my classroom and in the school. I am fair. Even the consequences and repercussions are the same. I will not show favoritism to any of my students because if I did, I as an educator could have major influences on the lives of my students. I may make them feel less adequate than someone else or make them experience internal conflicts within themselves. My students may begin to even ask themselves questions such as: "Am I not good enough?" or, "What is wrong with me?" Showing favoritism to certain students over others can have major negative effects on those who are not considered my "teacher's pets". Those negative effects can change the way my students will view teachers for the rest of their lives.

Consistency....
I will create a feeling of consistency for all of my students. There is a routine that is implemented so that the students understand what is expected of them. Students need to know their boundaries and what is expected when inside or outside of them. I also show consistency when enforcing rules and punishments. When a student breaks a rule, I make sure to punish them according to the rules and regulations that are established, and I do this immediately after the rule is broken. I do not procrastinate punishment because then my students will feel that the rules and myself, as a teacher, are somewhat of a "joke".

Passion.....
I strongly feel that teachers need passion. I am a very passionate teacher when it comes to my craft of education. I show passion towards my students and the subject matter in which I am teaching. When teachers are passionate educators, then the the sense of passion in the classroom and school becomes contagious. Students will vibe off of the teacher's love for their job and students , and in return, they will become passionate about school and their educational paths.

My Conclusion.....
In conclusion, my students expect me to be the creative teacher that I am, while using integration in the classroom. They also expect me to be fair and consistent as well as passionate when dealing with their issues, lives, and education as a teacher. With all of these values and expectations from my students, I as a teacher effectively achieve my priorities in my career.

My Views on Technology......
I am a major advocate for technology. I feel as though all educators should be comfortable and knowledgeable with all forms of technology. After all, technology is the base of our future. I will use technology in the classroom by using blogs, exploring itunes university, pod casts, and any other type of social networks they may arise in the near future. I feel as though the children of tomorrow need to be fluent and wise in technology in order to succeed in life.
